Charming Antique Adams Biscuit Barrel/Decorative Pot c.1864

Product ID: C159

A very charming  footed antique biscuit barrel dating to around 1864.

This delightful Adams Tunstall biscuit barrel is lavishly decorated with bouquets and swags of roses, upon a blush ivory ground. In the softest of hues, they proliferate all round the barrel body and upon the lid. A woven handle adds the finishing touch.

A lovely antique gem, which is not only beautiful but eminently useful; whether put to service as originally conceived as a biscuit barrel or to hold chocolates/confectionery, toiletries in the bedroom/bathroom or perhaps sewing notions for the seamstress/crafter. Whatever use you put it to, there is no denying its beautiful decorative qualities.

The barrel is impressed with the Adams Tunstall mark to the base and is believed to date to c. 1864. It is in wonderful condition for its age, with some crazing and a little wear to the gilding on the rim of the barrel body and the tiniest little nibble to the lid, as might be expected from an item of this age that has been used. The barrel is a generous large size, and measures approximately 8.5ins. to the tip of its handle (6.5ins. to the top of the lid knob) and 6 ins. in diameter across the base.

A very attractive and appealing decorative pot that is also useful.
