Bright & Sunny Ranunculus Oil on Canvas

Product ID: A111

A lovely, vintage oil painting of ranunculus flowers.

This is a vibrant original oil on canvas of early spring flowers dating to around the late 1940s / early 1950s. The painting makes reference to the traditions of earlier Dutch flower painting  and is signed by the artist, Coles, close to the footed earthenware urn in which the flowers are displayed, within a dark oval frame. Bold colours are a striking feature of this lovely old painting; in which two wonderfully sunny shades of yellow; rich buttercup, which is of course a member of the same family as the ranunculus  (as the gardeners amongst you will know) and a brighter, paler lemon hue are used, together with a deep red blossom. The artist has built up pigment to intensify the colour and give the flowers an almost realistic 3-dimensional effect by applying the paint with a knife. This is a lovely vibrant painting which will add an up-lifting shot of vintage spring colour to your interior.

Size & Condition:

The canvas is stretched on a wood frame and is approximately 16in by 20in (40cm by 50cm). It still retains part of the original artsales back label to its reverse. This super old vintage painting of ranunculus has some age related wear, which is not untypical of a painting of this age, and which is intrinsic to its appeal for true vintage lovers.

A vivacious cottage flower painting for a country or period setting, or a quirky vintage twist in a more contemporary interior.
